This years Wiki

Please take a few minutes to think about what topics you want to post to the Wiki the year. Post your topic and why you think it may be valuable to us. When you are done go back and look at what others have posted. You will contribute at least three more posts. Use these posts to either agree with another student that their topic is valuable or provide a rational why their topic is not of value. At the end of the period we should have it whittled down to one topic. You may want to visit the MCDL site to look at what we have covered and what is coming up.

Ms. Leckman

P.S. Nice job on your benchmarks and I will let you know how we stacked up against Meadows soon. ;-)

Return to book index Chapter 3 : Solving Linear Equations

i want to do this because you can never have too much practice on linear equations!

Anonymous said...

SV
I think the most important thing for us to know in the wiki are Solving Linear Equations because I think those will be the most important in high school.

Anonymous said...

Wiki idea:
I think that this years wiki should be formed around solving linear equations. Solving linear equations is important because we use it alot in math and i think that some people still don't really understand it.

Anonymous said...

jml

I'm not sure which topic but, i think we as a class should all agree on a subject that we all had a very hard time with.
I think that then a majority of other people would be struggling with it and we can look up information and be a tool to help them out!

Anonymous said...

SV
Another important thing would be Irrational and Rational numbers because i think that is one of my weakest areas.

Anonymous said...

Wiki Idea: NH

I think that this years wiki should feature the topic of Solving and Graphing Linear Inequalities, which is chapter 6. We have not done much work on inequalities and it would be good to learn from others in the class about how to solve and the history of inequalties. It would also give us an extra boost in graphing. In addition as an added bonus this section includes what Mrs Leckman loves: Box and Whisker Plots. So if you still don't understand the plots than you will learn from the Wiki.

Wiki MG

I think this years wiki should focus on chapter nine:Quadratic Equations and Functions. This is coming up and is a big part of mathematics. It would be nice to work on it in detail and by the end of the year we will be really familiar with them.

S. S.

I think the Wiki should have a list of common irritional numbers and their approximate square roots, as an easy reference.

Anonymous said...

R.B.
I think that we should post how to solve linear equations. This is an important subject because it can be used in multiple ways. It can also be used in real life situations which could help you alot. We should also post this because it can be confusing to some people, especially when you get into multiple steps.

Anonymous said...

J K 1/9/09
I think we should include on the wiki what we don't understand in the days lesson. Then other people can answer all these questions and get their questions answered too!

Anonymous said...

AH

I think we should post the distributive property because it was something that we took a while to learn. also, there are many ways to use it and how it can help solve a lot of problems.

This years wiki:
For the wiki this year we should do quadrics because we haven't really talked a lot about them and it would be a very good topic to learn about. It is another equation that we will most likely being seeing a lot of in high school so if we go over it now it will help us in the long run. The Quadrics equation "ax2 + bx + c = 0..this equation we haven't really used this year so it might be a good idea to go over it this last semeter

I think we should all do stuff that we have trouble with an example of this that test we all failed.......!

"This years wiki"
i think the topic for our wiki page should be about quadratics because we havent really talked about it that much. Also i think that it is important to learn the equation ax2 + bx + c = 0
because we might be using it later in high school.

Anonymous said...

JM

I think we should see the distributive property again because it was difficult to learn for some people. If we have this on the Wiki, I think we will be able to understand this concept better.

Anonymous said...

we should do the topic of chapter three section three. I believe this because its important in careers such as EMT and architect. Its also important becuase it shows how to use section one and two together.

I agree with JW because i reccomended the same thing as her!
Linear equations are really important, not just in school, but on our future lives!

Anonymous said...

JW
I agree with SV. rational and irrational numbers are my weakest subject also, and i think it would do me good to have a little more practice, along with others who have problems figuring out which is which.

Anonymous said...

Wiki M.R

I think that we should focus on Chapter eleven, Rational Equations and Functions. I think we should use this as a topic because it seems that it comes up in a lot of Benchmarks, and chapter eleven are normally the questions people mess up on.

Anonymous said...

T.G.

I think that solving linear equations is one of the most valuable skill in mathmatics. If you know the basics of solving linear equations you know how to find the answers to alot of questions. They are also great because the use fractions and decimals.

Anonymous said...

CR

I dont think we should do linear equations because we have been doing that this whole past semeter and I think we have the hang on how to do them. We should do something different before high school.

Anonymous said...

C.H.,
i agree with M.G. that we should focus on quadratics because as he said it will be a big part of our class soon and we should try to get a head start.

Anonymous said...

JS

I think we should see Linear equations because it was hard for some people to separate point slope form and slope intercept form. If you add this topic in the wiki i think more people will be able to understand.

Anonymous said...

JAL
I agree with SV and JW.....we could do linear equations...it could help in high school!!!!

Anonymous said...

yes, I agree that we should all practice that one test that we failed, because we obviously haven't learned it yet! sooooo... what waaas on that test?

Anonymous said...

I agree with JAL!
but, what was that test we all failed, what subject was it??

That was brutal!
:(

Anonymous said...

SM
A lot of ppl said we should focus on linear equations and i dont think we should because weve been working on that for a long time and i think we should pick a topic that we dont really understand that way we learn more. Linear equations are to familiar to us:)

Anonymous said...

SV
I alsoo agree with JK because i have questions on what we learned some days and on the homework. So, it would be good if i had somewhere to go ask my peers about it!!!

Anonymous said...

AM

I think we should do an entire page dedicated to linear equation, because it seems almost everything we'll be working with until college and maybe after that will be linear, and it would be good to have that ground into our heads.

Chapter 12: Radicals and Connections to Geometry
Omg I hate geometry and it's a hard concept to understand and would be nice to get some practice in it before we hit high school. If we could learn some tricks for Geometry that would be pretty bomb!

Anonymous said...

JE

I think the important topic we have to have is solving liner equations because they are an important part of math and would be used greatly in our adult lives so having it on the wiki would be a great resource to have on their.

Anonymous said...

R.B.
I agree with A.H. that we should focus on distributive properties because I still think that some people dont really get the concept of distribustion and why it is used.

Anonymous said...

C.H.
i agree with SV because i also think thhat linear equations will be very important in highschool and we need as much practice as we can get.

Anonymous said...

Rational numbers are a good topic to focus on because we have not done a lot of that this year. Maybe we could do that..

Anonymous said...

NH commmenting CH
I think that solving linear equations are important but i think that we should also move farther ahead in our work.

Anonymous said...

i agree with everyone who says we should do chapter three solving linear equations. This chapter was hard for most people and some still have trouble with it.

“This years Wiki”

On this years wiki I think the topic should be quadratics. Quadratics is an important topic that we can use in high school and collage. The equation, ax2 + bx + c = 0, is one that some of us know nothing about while others studied it last year but is still an important equation.

Anonymous said...

AH

i agree with MG about focusing on quadratic equations because from what we learned last year, it could get complicated. like MG said, if we work on it enough, we could be really familiar with them by the end of the year.

Anonymous said...

JW

NO LINEAR EQUATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

you all know we've done them over and over and over again...

lets choose something that everyone isn't quite familiar with!

Anonymous said...

RH

I think Chapter 12 Radicals and Connections to geometry because I still don't understand that and I think it will be good to know in high school.

Anonymous said...

JML:

i agree with CR too!
we should NOT do anything that we are all very comfortable with and are able to do in our sleep.
we need to do something that challenges us!

Anonymous said...

N.E

I think we should do chapter 12 radicals and connections to geometry because we will be looking at geometry in high school and i think we should know at least the basics.

Anonymous said...

AM

We should also do a section on
y-y1=m(x-x1) because I think a lot of people got confused by that at the beginning and since that isnt as common as y=mx+b, a lot of us will forget it.

Anonymous said...

JS

I agree with CH because i still don't completely understand Linear Equations.

Anonymous said...

JW

Quadratics sounds like a good idea...so we are gonna teach ourselves quadratics though? that doesn't sound very good...

Anonymous said...

JB
I think that we should focus on chapter three solving linear equations. Because solving linear equations can be very important in jobs such as architecture EMT videogame design and even jobs such as park rangers.

Anonymous said...

C.H.
i agree with S.S. because it would make things alot easier for us and it would be alot less hassle while doing our work. Also we could learn to try and memorise it to make things even more easier.

Anonymous said...

O.S.

I think that this year in the wiki we should be talking about upcoming lessons like quadratic equations because many people will not know what it is yet and it would be helpful to know. we have not really talked about it in the past years so it would be good for us to learn before highschool

Anonymous said...

MG commenting JK

I agree with JK. Their idea is very good in the way of it would change ever day and it would help the people that have fallen behind.

Anonymous said...

NH commenting MR
I dont agree with your comment fully because i dont know if all of us mess up on rational equations. But i think we should work on it.

Anonymous said...

MP

I believe we should go back to Chapter 3. Linear equations are very important in sometimes everyday life, and they'll be used more often than something like box and whiskers.

Anonymous said...

EK

I agree with everyone that we should do chapter three. It was a hard chapter for most people, and some still dont understand it.

Anonymous said...

D.E.

I think this Wiki should cover rational and irrational because some people don't get it, and we went over it pretty quickly. Also, we should have more examples of the rational and irrational problems, because of how they are shown in the order of operations and their relations to many other problems.

Anonymous said...

JM

I agree with MG because I think this is a very important concept to understand in math. If we learn about Quadratic Equations and Functions in detail, then we will be able understand it and use it in math.

Anonymous said...

JS

I agree with JML because some people might have different topics but if we find one that most have in common we can get more done.

Anonymous said...

B.B.

SV i agree with learning more about Rational and Irrational numbers, I kind of guess on them on the test and it would be nice to have more practice with them because I have a feeling they will come back to bite us all sometime!

Anonymous said...

JAL
Okay haha now that I have read CR response on linear equations I take back what I say....It would be kind of dumb to work on something we have already done for like a whole year! SOOOOOO...... we should do something that would be helpful ofr all of us!

Anonymous said...

We should do a page on whatever new subject we do next.

That way, in case any of us have notes we can't read or understand, we can look up understandable notes online, with ease. That way no one will have an excuse to be confused.

Anonymous said...

CR

I agree with everyone that said we should focus on the parts and tests that we didnt do so well on..if we focus on those then yes we should go back for sometime this semeter and do linear equations but shouldnt put all our focus on just that

Anonymous said...

C.C.

Linear equations are important math wise but they can help in the future. Linear equations can help us find out how much somthing is or how much its worth. We won't always carry a calculator or phone.

Anonymous said...

R.B.
I agree with S.S. and M.R. because personaly i didnt really get how to tell if its rational or irrational if the decimal continues for a while and I know other people dont understand this either

Anonymous said...

NH commenting BB
I agree with chapter 12 as our wiki i dont like geomeetry either

Anonymous said...

JK 1/9/09

I agree with JW, you can never have too much practice on linear equations. This is true because you use linear equations almost every day of your life as an adult. Your salary is a linear equation, for example.

Anonymous said...

SO EVERYONE PUT IN WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND WE CAN TALLY IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with SV because I also struggled with rational and irrational numbers.

Anonymous said...

I love the idea about Irrational and Rational numbers because itsa something new and we just started working on it. Plus it will also be in high school too:)

Anonymous said...

B.B.

I agree with C.H. we should learn as much as we can with linear equations. We will probably be doing them all the time in high school, so why not start now.

Anonymous said...

MG commenting SS

I agree with SS. A reference sheet with all the square roots and common irrationals would be good. It would be easy to study and get comfortable with the square roots.

Anonymous said...

i agree with JAL because the test was a complete failer and can't go unheard. We should practice more on that subject until we don't fail it again.

Anonymous said...

BMJ

i think we should use Radicals and Connections to Geometry because it seems confusing. if it seems confusing to me, it might seem confusing to other people. this would be used to help people understand this subject better...?

Anonymous said...

AM

We shuld also do a page dedicated to square roots and ir/rational numbers! I was a little surprised that there were people that got eighties on that benchmark... I think that they would all appreciate a little bit more coverage on that topic...

Anonymous said...

AH

I don't fully agree with JW because even though the practice would help, i believe we should be spending our time working on harder things we truly need help with.

Anonymous said...

I agree with everyone who says solving linear equations because it is an important topic and it probably will come up alot in high school.

JB

Anonymous said...

I disagree with SV because I think Ms. L can help us with the irrational and rational numbers very quickly, where as linear equations just take practice. Linear equations is something we can do the whole year.

Anonymous said...

S.S.

But we have already gone over Linear equations. How do you know they are going to be the most important in high school?

Anonymous said...

JS

I agree with CR, If we learn to use the equation sooner, we will get a better understanding of it for high school.

Anonymous said...

i agree with jk too!
asking peers could really help and having it on the wiki where we all pretty have access to it at home could really take a lot of stress and commotion of people who don't understand the concept fully!

I disagree with JW because we have spent a lot of time on linear equations and it would be a waste of time going over something that most of the students already know. We should work on harder things so we can learn them and understand them better.

Anonymous said...

I also agree with RB because geometry is a difficult subject and it would be a good thing to learn good ways to make it easier before we all get killed with it in High School

Anonymous said...

I think we should have examples of Rational and Irriational decimals on the Wiki.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the several who want to taking time and focusing on the liner equations. je

Anonymous said...

AM

Let's do a page on PEMDAS and solving the long equations, that are like, 2(4+3[2/3-1/8]+7-9)+67x33

Because a lot of people tend to get confused by those.

Brownie points to anyone that figures that out ;)

(has anyone else noticed that the words you have to type to verify your post look like words from arabic or french?)

Anonymous said...

D.E. on R.H.

I agree with R.H. because he/she is right, our class really shortly covered radicals in geometry and they still seem kinda strange.

Anonymous said...

S.S.

We should go over the equations that were on the text we all failed. Like Ax+by=C. We should go voer transfering that into all the differnt kind of equations step by step on the blog.

Anonymous said...

AH

I agree with NH about writing about graphing and solving linear inequalities because that could get complicated and people could get mixed up a lot. we seem to have a harder time with inequalities.

Anonymous said...

JM

I disagree with CH because, like I said before, we have already spent a lot of time on linear equations and it would be a waste of time going over something we already know.;-)

MG commenting AH

I agree with AH.Distributive property would be a great idea. Most people i do not think understand the concept as a whole. If we focused on it people could do the distributive property with more ease

I agree with the topic, geomotry, because we will be taking it in high school and need to be prepared in 8th grade. We need to know it and be challenged. je

Anonymous said...

EK

i disagree with R.B. and A.H. the concept of distributive property ids simple, thats why we didnt spend as much time on it as solving linear equations. Anyone who still dont understand will need some more help, but not enough to focus on as the most imprtant.

I also agree with AM that it would be a good idea to work with square roots and rational/irrational numbers, even though I thought the benchmark was incredibly easy, some people got high C's on something that was an easy A, so clearly some people don't understand it very well

solving lineaqr equations is something improtant now, in high school, and in collage. depending on on the career it can be important working as well. We still dont fully understand solving equations if we did we wont have failed that test. we should put it on the wiki for practice and help from others with homework.
